Happy Farewells

He watched as she lay there, weak, broken and helpless.
Sacrifice didn’t help, he’d been sympathetic and selfless.
They both knew it, the inescapable truth – she was going.
Yet, there was nothing they could do, neither crying nor mourning.
She took his hand and smiled, her eyes filled with decades of emotion,
Memories filled him, a wonderful life, full of joy, love and passion.
Feelings flowed freely, he was overwhelmed in the waterfall of love.
Understanding suddenly, he smiled, and prepared to leave his beautiful dove.
He hugged her, pouring out all his desperation, helplessness and joy,
He kissed her, pouring out all the love and passion of a young-again boy.
The Embrace of Death, sealed with the Kiss of Life,
He made his peace and tearfully said goodbye to his wife.
