Sweet Betrayal

He was quite new to the place,
And yet, everyone knew his face.
He too, knew almost everyone around there,
Except the one woman, exceedingly fair.
People warned him about her,
But his curiosity aroused, a great loss did he incur.
So, dressed in the coolest and latest fashion,
He met her and, alas, she became his passion.
Her eyes were enchanting and brown,
Her heavenly face had no sign of a frown.
Her fair, glowing skin, so smooth,
Her nature, forever in a happy mood.
So graceful she was in every swirl,
Never was there such a beautiful girl.
He watched for over a year,
But his heart, to tell her, filled with fear.
Finally, pitiful, he could not sleep,
No sense of time could he keep,
He could not drink or eat,
Somehow, he had to accomplish this feat.
So one day, he told her his proposal,
But constantly feared her refusal.
He certainly could not control her,
And her instant reply was “Mister!
This cannot be, I really don’t think so.”
He understood, the answer was a simple “No!”
He certainly understood, but she did not.
And over this matter, with him she fought.
Finally, he realized this was mission impossible,
The emotional gap between them was impassable.
Although the idea into his head did get,
Her beauty he just could not forget.
So when she said “ Maybe I said ‘no’ in haste…”
Hurray, he thought, the effort was not a waste!
He waited with bated breath,
Out of thy mouth, why the words not cometh?
She continued “ Maybe I do like you.”
He jumped and shouted with joy, “I love you!”
But the relationship was not interactive,
As a matter of fact, it wasn’t even active.
Slowly, the pleasant dream turned a nightmare.
It seemed like she didn’t really care.
So, like a thief after a theft,
He just quietly left.
He is now a world-famous philosopher,
But nobody has even heard of her!
